About me
My name is Alex Silva. I used to be a software engineer until I switched careers to become a photographer.
My Biography
Switching careers was scary, but I did it little by little, starting with photography as a hobby back in 2000. A few years later in 2007, with more experience, I started charging for my work as an additional income. At the same time I started teaching photography in small groups.
I became a full time photographer and videographer in 2018 and haven’t looked back. My specialty is corporate portraits, but I also shoot look books and advertising campaigns.
Sharing what I know has always been a passion for me, that’s why I started teaching. Nowadays I teach at two universities and it’s a great experience. However, in order to reach more people, I started my blog and YouTube channel.

My Story
2017
Back in Mexico and Complete Switch
Moving back to Mexico I decided to work only as photographer and videographer. It was difficult at first, but it was also incredible rewarding, so I have no regrets.
2013
Moved Abroad
The stars aligned and I moved to Chile to continue working in IT, with photography as a side gig. I delved into more experimentation with commercial work. I shot architecture, food, corporate events and portraits. For fun I photographed cosplayers for fun, which provided amazing experience!
2010
Weddings and Portraits
After a lot of practice and some assistantships, I decided to try wedding photography. It was an amazing experience! However, I realized that I enjoyed portraits a lot more.
2007
First Paid Gigs and Courses
While working as a software developer and project manager, photography was a hobby. Until someone offered to pay for a shoot, and then for a photography basics course.
2000
My First “Serious” Camera
Even though I’ve been interested in photography since I was a child, I never had a camera of my own. That changed while I was living in the US, when I bought my first SLR and started to practice constantly.
