Opening a Box of Goodies! (Unboxing Included)
If you follow me regularly, you know I switched camera systems, so I got a few new tools. Here’s what I got and why.
Flashes
By now you know I’m mostly shooting with a Fujifilm X-T2 and, according to a previous post, I think Fujifilm has an amazing system when it comes to cameras and lenses, bit it still has a way to go when it comes to flashes.
Fortunately, Godox has been hard at work developing a flash system that integrates from tiny speedlights to 1200 Ws studio strobes, and they make all of their system compatible with the major brands like Canon and Nikon, and more recently, Fujifilm :-)
I decided to get a few flashes as well as the transmitter, but I also wanted support and warranty, so I ordered them rebranded as Flashpoint units from the Adorama store in NYC.
First, I have to mention the Flashpoint R2 Zoom TTL (Godox TT685), which is similar to Canon’s 600EX or Nikon’s SB-800 with a Guide Number of 60m. I bought the Fujifilm version, but it’s available for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Micro 4/3 and Pentax cameras.
The second flash is a Flashpoint R2 Zoom TTL Mini (Godox TT350). It’s similar to Canon’s 320EX or a bit less powerfull than Nikon’s SB-700 FX, with a guide number of 35m. It comes with its own diffuser, which I just love! Again, I bought the Fujifilm version, but it’s available for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Micro 4/3 and Pentax cameras.
Of course, I usually shoot Off Camera Flash so I needed something to control the flashes. That’s why I added the Flashpoint R2 TTL Transmitter (Godox X1T) and my flash system is now complete, again. Woohoo!
If you are a Fujifilm shooter interested in off-camera flash (OCF), you can’t go wrong with this setup. We’re talking about a flash system where the only “proprietary” part is the transmitter. All the flashes become “camera agnostic” when they are in radio slave mode. It’s amazing!
Accessories
I also needed something to help me mount my camera to a tripod, as well as carrying it. I have used a Blackrapid Wrist Strap for a year and found it very comfortable. That’s why I decided to jump into the Blackrapid system, getting a Quick Release Tripod Plate. I also chose a Cross Shot Breathe strap. This combination is awesome! You can see the plate mounted to one of my tripod heads as well as attached to the strap. Simply genius!
What can you do with a kit like this? Make great images of course! I’m lining up some photoshoots that I’ll share here very soon, so you can see the results of using all this gear.
